World of Cos - Coming up; A Sonic Journey Through December and Beyond
Greetings, esteemed readers
As I sit here, surrounded by the comforting hum of my self-made electronic devices, it brings me great pleasure to share my upcoming musical ventures, all set to unfold this December and beyond. Join me on this auditory exploration, where guitars, synthesizers, and unconventional instruments converge to create a symphony of experimental sounds. That’s how you’re supposed to write a blog isn’t it? How long can I keep it up? :/
First and foremost, mark your calendars for Saturday, the 9th of December, as I take the stage with SPeW, the psych-post-punk-funk quartet, at Biddles Brothers on 88 Lower Clapton Road, London, E5, UK. Joined by the rhythmic prowess of Dave Morgan on drums and the multitalented Gardyloo Spew herself on vocals, sax, keys, and guitar, this promises to be a night of musical alchemy. My beloved guitar, er, affectionately named the "Spew-tar," (well I cant keep calling it “the Jet Lag” as that has the wrong connotation and I have more than one) has undergone some electrical tweaking, allowing me to manipulate tones with precision—cutting through bass or treble to enhance distortion clarity without encroaching on Marina Young's wonderfully melodic bass guitar territory.
For the curious minds seeking an auditory expedition, find event details on our Facebook page: SPeW at Biddles Brothers
Next on the agenda, on Friday, the 15th of December, my main band, Rude Mechanicals, will once again grace the Walthamstow Trades Hall with its presence. Led as ever by the charismatic Miss Roberts (I think I need more superlatives), the full collection of musical luminaries will be with us - Jowe Head, Marina Young, and Jeff Bloom. The venue, located at 61-63 Tower Hamlets Road, Walthamstow, London, E17 4RQ, is set to become an auditory playground where the boundaries of music are pushed and prodded when we’re joined by Art Trip and The Static Sound. Secure your tickets and immerse yourself in a night of eclectic sounds.
As December unfolds, the Rude Mechanicals Duo, comprising Miss Roberts and myself, will be part of the Yuletide celebrations at The Hundred Years Gallery on the 21st. A special treat awaits as I unveil my newly restored Eko 12-string acoustic guitar, a gem from 1972, now set up as a 6-string, promising a sonorous sonic journey. Details about the event can be found on the gallery's [website](http://hundredyearsgallery.co.uk/).
Artist in Residence!?
Now, onto a particularly exciting development - an invitation that has bestowed upon me the title of Artist In Residence at The Hundred Years Gallery. Monthly, on the 3rd Saturday or Sunday between 4.30 and 6.00.
The next is Sunday 17th December 2023
I will be performing extended soundscapes, delving into the intricate world of sound creation. Each performance will feature a unique setup, with the aim of exploring a different aspect of sound each month. The initial performances, recorded with a contact microphone on a small drum and two electronic circuits of my creation, are being transformed into albums set for release in 2024 on the gallery's label. Experience a glimpse of these performances in this video
A New Album!?!
And now, the crescendo of excitement - Rude Mechanicals have completed a new album titled "The Crimes of Miss Roberts." A labor of love that began in 2019, the recording process faced its share of challenges, courtesy of the tumultuous times we find ourselves in. However, with perseverance and creative ingenuity, the album is ready to emerge from the shadows. With contributions from an array of talented musicians and the artistic touch of Miss Roberts, we are in talks with a label for a vinyl LP release in 2024.
As the year draws to a close, I extend an invitation to join me on this sonic odyssey.
Yours in sound, Cos
